Classes

We are so pleased to have Megan Goodacre joining us for the weekend. Here’s her bio:

Megan Goodacre is a Canadian graphic artist, blogger, and longtime knitter. The creative force behind Tricksy Knitter, Megan mixes her (slightly) eccentric skill set of math, fine art, design and general craftiness to write how-to knit articles and design knitting patterns. Her work has been published by Interweave, Twist Collective, and Creative Knitting.
Transplanted from balmy Vancouver Island to Ottawa in 2013, she can either be found huddled next to her computer for warmth, or warding off aggressive squirrels with her knitting needles. Read more about her adventures at www.tricksyknitter.com.

Add these tricks and more to your knitter's toolkit, and you will become a faster, more efficient knitter, and your knits will look and feel even better than they do now.

Triangular shawls from the top down
Unlock the secrets of this most satisfying knitting project! Top down triangular shawls, whether you make them in simple textures or complex lace, make beautiful gifts and accessories. And, a triangular shawl is a great way to showcase a special skein of hand-dyed yarn.

We’ll cover construction, design, and finishing. To practice techniques, students will work on miniature shawls in class. Topics will include: how to start with a garter stitch tab, which type of increase to use, with stitch patterns work best, choosing a bind off, and how to block.

At the end of the class, choose one of Tricksy Knitter’s shawl patterns to take home with you.

Exploring colour
A cosy pair of mittens is a perfect canvas for playing with colour—and a wonderful gift! Combining colours is a powerful creative tool: it can be moody, sassy, bold, traditional or understated. It’s up to you!
Using a simplified Scandinavian mitten construction, you will choose from the colour charts provided or design your own!

On the technical side, we’ll look at two-handed stranded knitting, how to weave in floats, knitting a thumb, and colour dominance. On the colourful side, we’ll look at the colour wheel and colour interactions.
